2009 BOYS' VOLLEYBALL
Club Cactus Juniors Volleyball Club is forming boys' teams for the 2008-09 club volleyball season. All boys (ages 12-18) that are interested in club volleyball are encouraged to attend tryouts and team selections.
Junior Olympic Volleyball
As a Junior Olympic volleyball program, Club Cactus Juniors Volleyball is committed to providing quality training (both physically and psychologically) and competition. This competitive athletic experience can enhance social development, contribute to mental and physical health, and teach the values of teamwork, goal-setting, responsibility, self discipline, and self-motivation.
Since 1994, CCJ has provided the highest level of training in Southern Arizona and has been recognized nationally as one of the nation's top clubs. In July 2001, CCJ 181 won the Bronze Medal at the USA Volleyball Junior Olympic Championships.
Coaching Staff
CCJ's coaching staff consists of current and former collegiate players, as well some of the top high school coaches in Southern Arizona. All coaches are directed under the guidance of CCJ Director and Head Coach Bill Lang, promoting consistent training among all teams. Lang is also the head coach at Ironwood Ridge High School - where he was named Arizona boys' Coach of the Year in 2004 and 2005 by the Arizona Coaches' Association. Coach Lang was one of the State's first boy's juniors volleyball coaches when he helped start the CCJ boys' program in 1994 and was the 181 coach for 5 years.
STEVE CARLAT: The former University of Arizona and four-time National Champion coach serves as an advisor for the boys' volleyball coaching staff. Carlat has retired from active coaching, but still serves as a wealth of knowledge for the coaches and players.
MATT MALONE: Former Long Beach State player (1991 NCAA Champions) and UCLA player. Malone recently moved to Southern Arizona and brings over 15 years of coaching experience at the club and high school level to CCJ.
DAVID NOBREGA: Former University of Arizona player (2000 NIRSHA National Champions) and current USAV player. Norbrega has coached with CCJ for 3 years and brings more high-level player experience to the gym for our club players.
