New Tiebreaker Procedure Introduced at 2014 event

JANUARY 11, 2014: The Cactus Classic Invitational has revised it's tie-break procedure for the 2014 event, which will include playoffs for all teams involved in a three-way tie for and advancing position at the conclusion of pool play. In the past, the Classic has used sets won-lost, points won-lost, and ultimately a coin-flip or higher seed to determine ties.

Considering that the Cactus Classic is a USAV Ranking Event, the tournament will now follow the tie break procedure used at all Junior National Qualifiers where teams must play one set to 25 to break any tie that involves teams advancing in the tournament. More information will be available to the coaches and at check-in.

2014 Cactus Classic Registers over 100 Teams!

JANUARY 8, 2014: Continuing the growth over the past five years, the 2014 Cactus Classic Invitational will feature 102 teams competing on 20 courts. This will be the largest field since the Classic moved to larger venues. The previous record was 114 teams in 2003.

The 14U Division promises to be one of the best early season tournaments in the Region. Last year's finalists Albuquerque Rebels Volleyball Club and Saddleback Valley Volleyball Club return along with semi-finals Club One AZ and LIVEWIRE Volleyball. In addition, Arizona Sky Volleyball Club, Fortitude VBC, Sparks Volleyball Club, and host Club Cactus 14-Mizuno all join the party. The 48-team field should have some great matches again.

Leading the 16U Division's 32-team field should be host Club Cactus 16-Mizuno (2012 Champions) along the tournament's other top-seeds El Paso Wildfire 16-1 and Club One AZ 16-Blue. The 18U Division will feature best-of-five matches and should expect tournament host Club Cactus 18-Mizuno (2012 Champions, 2013 Runner-Up) to advance to the finals for the third straight year. Rounding out the final four could be El Paso Aftershock, Mesa 17's, along with another Southern Arizona local team in Club Copper 17 or Dinamo 17-Elite Dan.

First serve is 8:00 AM on Saturday, January 18, 2014. All matches will be held at new The Sporting Chance Center, the Tucson Convention Center, and auxiliary sites.

The Classic Classic at the Sporting Chance Center!

OCTOBER 2013: Due to some scheduling conflicts with the Tucson Convention Center, the 2014 Cactus Classic will be introducing a new venue in addition to the Convention Center. The Sporting Chance Center is a new state-of-the-art facility in Tucson that features eight (8) premier volleyball courts. This is the best floor in Southern Arizona.

The Sporting Chance Center will be hosting 8 courts as the main venue, along with courts at the Tucson Convention Center, and the University of Arizona. The 2015 event will return to the convention center as the main venue and will continue to use the Sporting Chance as auxilary venue.

The Cactus Classic a Success at the TCC!

Cactus Classic

...just wanted to let you know how AMAZINGLY IMPROVED this year's event was to previous years. We were blown away by the ease of access, the closeness in proximity to the freeway and hotels, the cleanliness and upkeep of the convention center and the wonderful view and seating for each court. Wow, soooo much better than before. We, as a team, hope that you can "book" the convention center again next year!
Thank you again for a great weekend!
Mel (Team Mom of 14U team)

The Cactus Classic was wonderful! So well organized and fun for the girls. The TCC was the perfect venue as well! Beautiful courts, nice area for spectators, clean, good snack bar--all around a wonderful place to spend the day. Thank you for putting on a great tournament! We forward to coming back next year!
Jennifer (parent of 14U player)

12's Tournament

What a great idea to expand the 12's tournament to two-days. At first, I was skeptical thinking they couldn't last and the thought of keeping them out-of-town made me question the change. However, the girls LOVED the hotel stay and being in the convention center with the older girls. They improved over the two days by playing more matches and got excited playing in a 'real playoff' for the tournament. Thanks again for creating a great event.
